Why All Coaches Should Have a Podcast

Why All Coaches Should Have a Podcast

If you’re a personal development coach, you should have a podcast. Full stop. It doesn’t matter whether your focus is in business, relationships, health -- or any other niche topic. A podcast can help you expand your audience, attract new clients, and even bring in extra income.

Maybe you’re groaning at the thought of making a podcast and adding extra work, but seriously, hear us out. It’s worth it, we promise.

✴ Reach a bigger audience

As a coach, we’re guessing you want to help as many people as possible. But whether because of time constraints or a small audience, you may not be able to maximize your reach. With a podcast, you can do both.

If you’re booked up, but you still want to help more people, you can provide broader advice to your entire client base through a podcast. Record episodes about topics that routinely come up during your coaching sessions and offer some generalized advice to a new audience who might find it helpful. With this method, you can help an unlimited number of people -- whoever tunes in can benefit from your insight.

Alternatively, if you’re looking to expand your audience, a podcast can help you connect with listeners beyond your immediate network. If you run your business entirely by local marketing or word-of-mouth, and you’re only doing in-person coaching, your reach is limited. But with a podcast, you can unlock a whole new audience of like-minded people who find your advice beneficial.

Attract new clients

Not only will you be able to reach a larger audience, but you might be able to convert some of them into new clients for your in-person coaching business. Show off your coaching skills for free, and people will be much more likely to reach out and pay you for your more specialized services.

With a podcast, you don’t have to get bogged down in a ton of targeted marketing to try to find new clients. If you can get your podcast ranked under your specific coaching category, you’ll have people coming to you. So all you have to worry about is creating content that keeps them hooked and interested.

Additional revenue stream

Another plus? A podcast can serve as an additional revenue stream. You can do this by putting up a pay-wall (either for the entire podcast or just premium extras) or securing advertisers.

Now, it’s important to acknowledge that making any significant amount of money from a podcast takes a lot of time and effort. However, we highly suggest you get started now and focus on the other benefits first (like securing new clients).

Don’t spend your energy at the beginning trying to find advertisers; just create great content. Then, if you find that your podcast really resonates with people, and you start to get a serious number of downloads, you can reach out to advertisers. If they see there’s already an audience there, you’re much more likely to seal the deal.
