Why Right Now is a Great Time to Make a Podcast
There’s a running joke on Twitter that everyone is going to start a podcast now that we’re all spending a lot more time at home. But you know what? You should! If you have an idea, there’s never been a better time to make a podcast than right now.
✴ The bubble is about to burst
Back in 2018, there were 550,000 active podcasts. Today, there are over 800,000 active podcasts. That’s not to deter you--it’s to inspire you. Those numbers may seem like a lot, but compare those numbers with the active blogs or YouTube channels out there, and you’ll quickly realize there’s a lot less competition in the podcasting field. But it won’t stay that way forever. As we can see from the growth from 2018 to now, podcasting is quickly becoming the next big thing. So, if you’ve ever thought about making a podcast, now is exactly the right time to make it a reality. You want to get in the mix before the bubble bursts.
✴ It’s easier than ever to get started
There’s the idea that sometimes it’s best not to be the first one out of the gate. This way, you can see all the pitfalls that those before you experienced. So rather than wishing you had jumped on the bandwagon earlier, thank all the other podcasters out there for paving the way for you.
Because of them, there are a ton of resources to help you.
You don’t have to look any further than The Wave. We’ve got all the resources you need, from how to write epic show notes to how to include a remote guest. Sign up for our newsletter for even more free stuff, like our guide to podcast equipment and software basics.
No matter what you need, The Wave has you covered every step of the way. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for? Just reach out and ask. We’ll be happy to help you find the answers to get you started.
✴ You can do it all from home
The beauty of podcasting is that you can do it all on your own--even while being cooped up in the house. Sure, certain podcasts would benefit from everyone being in the same room, but there are clever solutions for everything. If you set your mind to it, you can get it all done within the comforts of your home. Even if it requires recording in your closet with your clothes hanging around you. (True story: clothes help to diffuse outside noise!)

✴ And last but not least
Remember that this podcasting business is supposed to be fun. In trying times, it helps to find a creative outlet to take our minds off what’s happening in the world outside. So take advantage of this opportunity and just dive in.
It’s okay if not everything’s perfect. There’s a learning curve with everything, and podcasts are no different. The best way to get better is by simply committing to learning as you go and having fun with it. Your very first episode isn’t going to be the perfectly produced idea you had in your head. And that’s okay. Episode two will be better, and episode three even better than that.
Now’s the time to jump in. Don’t overthink it, just do it. You’ll be so happy you did.
